Wines and Vineyards (more)

The specific nature and the variety of Loire wines come from the climate and the type of soils. The five main grape varieties (Sauvignon blanc, Chenin, Cabernet franc, Gamay and Pinot noir) are to be found over the entire region. The vines stretch over varied landscapes: gravel terraces in Chinon and Bourgueil, hillsides and plateaux in Touraine, valleys in the Gien area, and steep slopes in Sancerre… The reds boast deep colours and fruity aromas, the whites offer subtle, intense scents, the rosés are fresh and light, not forgetting the sparkling wines with their fine bubbles.

Wines for every occasion

What better way to discover or rediscover these wines than to go to the region itself? Take the tourist vineyard route and stop off at estates on your way. Push open the doors of the wine centres and museums dotted around the territory. Spend a while in the specialised sites such as the Maison des Sancerre and the Villa Quincy. Accept an invitation from the many producers who open the doors of their cellars to you. You can taste wine there in a convivial atmosphere and share in their expertise and their passion. Some of them will let you visit their vineyards and winery buildings. But if you want a more in-depth initiation into wine, make the most of the wine breaks and oenology classes which will turn you into real connoisseurs. The colour, bouquet and taste of wines will become your area of expertise!

Don't forget the many events dedicated to this delicious beverage, all year long. Each wine area offers something different. While some are specifically devoted to wine (fairs, brotherhood meetings…), others combine wine with other local produce, sports events or artistic activities.

To find out a few good tips and get practical information, consult the sites of our partners: Interloire and the Bureau Interprofessionnel des Vins du Centre (BIVC).
